NAHEP

National Agricultural Higher Education Project (NAHEP)

Title of the Project : Strengthening of College of Horticulture, Mojerla for attaining ICAR Accreditation

Rationale of Proposal (Innovation Grant of NAHEP)

Although, College of Horticulture, Mojerla was established with exemplary mission and goals, lack of sufficient flow of funds and hurdles in revenue department hampered the land acquisition process for instructional farm development and other infrastructure development. Hence during the last ICAR peer review team (PRT) visit in 2014 the college not approved for ICAR accreditation mainly indicating the poor faculty strength, lack of sufficient instructional farm, library facility, and laboratory (PRT report enclosed).

However, during the recent past Years University has recruited sufficient competent teaching staff with varied education background from national and international universities (details listed above) and with the intervention of Telangana government new land reforms, additional 32 acres at Mojerla village to the existing 28 acres and 50 acres at Madanapuram village were handed over to the college instructional farm development. Now the college has 110 acres of land for infrastructure and instructional farms.

Hence, the purpose of submitting this concept note for innovation grant is to full fill the lacunas by strengthening infrastructure and attain accreditation to College of Horticulture, Mojerla with the following objectives.

Objectives

i. To strengthen and develop the instructional farm to educate hands-on training for under-graduate students in various disciplines of horticulture (fruits, vegetables, ornamental, medicinal, aromatic) as part of the course curriculum
ii. To strengthen the existing library facility and e-library to create a learning resource for students to gain theoretical knowledge
iii. To establish and strengthen the existing UG, PG and Post-harvest technology laboratory facility for conducting practicals as per the curriculum
iv. To strengthen the existing placement cell for training students competitive exams, industry ready and entrepreneurship skill development
