The All India Coordinated Research Project (AICRP) on Floriculture at Agricultural Research Institute (ARI), Rajendranagar, Hyderabad was established in the year 1986-87 to carry out the inter disciplinary research on floriculture. The Floricultural Research station, Hyderabad came under the purview of Andhra Pradesh Horticultural University from June 2007 after the separation from ANGRAU which was renamed later as Dr. YSRHU during the year 2011. Later after the formation of Telangana state it came under the purview of Sri Konda Laxman Telangana state Horticultural University and was renamed as Floricultural Research station in the year 2014.
Among the AICRP coordinated centers, Hyderabad was identified as a testing center of elite varieties of flower crops. Initially, the research work was oriented on rose, gladiolus, chrysanthemum and orchids later considering the research needs and potentiality marigold, gladiolus, chrysanthemum, jasmine and tuberose were allotted as mandate flower crops on which the ongoing research work is being carried out at the centre.
